Filey Museum - The Garden

«back

Although this outside area to the rear of the museum is a display area it is also a peaceful garden, in which we hope you will take a rest. In fact it has won local awards three times as the best non-domestic garden in Filey.

One of the cottages was a farm building and the agricultural link is emphasised by the display of old farming machinery.  The fishing link is made obvious by the actual salmon coble (donated by a local fisherman) now on display opposite.  The hidden surprise, however, is the baiting shed. This small building, provided by the local Lions organisation, is an accurate re-creation of the conditions in which the preparatory work for fishing was carried out.  A six minute DVD presentation explains the process in detail.
